MACEDON. Mende. Circa 460-423 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.09 g), c. 440-430 BC. Dionysos, bearded and wearing himation, holding a kantharos in his extended right hand and ivy branch in his left, reclining left on the back of a donkey walking right; to right, crow perched on a vine to right. Rev. MENΔAION Linear square containing a vine with leaves, tendrils and four bunches of grapes. Noe, Mende 50b (this coin). Jameson 1961 (this coin). Very artistic obverse die. Some marks and traces of corrosion, otherwise, very fine.
