LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 290-280 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 22.5 mm, 7.90 g, 5 h). Diademed and bearded head of Herakles to left, with his lion's skin tied around his neck and his club behind. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Ear of barley with leaf to right; with kantharos above leaf and ΒΙ below. HN III 1621. Johnston Class D 4.1. Very rare with Herakles to left. Attractive, clear and nicely toned. Traces of overstriking and with some flatness, otherwise, extremely fine.
