DYNASTS of LYCIA. Perikles and Vedrei. Circa 380-370 BC. 1/6 Stater (Silver, 10mm, 1.18 g 9). ‘WEDEWIE’ On the left, lion leaping right and attacking a bull that collapses to left. Rev.PERIKLE’ Head of Athena facing, turned slightly to left, wearing crested helmet adorned with a sphinx on each side. Falghera 214. SNG Copenhagen Suppl. 481. SNG Von Aulock 4247-8. An attractive, toned example. Extremely fine.

The types on this coin are copied from those of Akanthos and Syracuse and are exceptionally well made with very fine details. Given the coin’s small size its quality is on a par with Sicilian small denominations of the late 5th century.
