MYSIA, Parion. 4th century BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 14mm, 2.48 g 6). ΠΑ - ΡΙ Bull standing left, head turned back to right. Rev. Gorgoneion facing, surrounded by snakes. SNG Paris 1357. A very attractive and fresh example. Virtually as struck.

From the Mieza collection, ex Tkalec 9 May 2011, 58.

The hemidrachm coinage of Parion is unusual because while the types (bull looking back/Gorgoneion) remain the same, they seem to change from obverse to reverse and vice versa following no discernible scheme. For example, on this coin the gorgoneion was clearly struck by a reverse die, but on others the gorgoneion is equally clearly on the obverse.
