ISLANDS off IONIA, Samos. Circa 408/4-380/66 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 15.06 g 6), under the magistrate Pythion. Lion’s scalp facing. Rev. ΠΥΘΙΩΝ / ΣΑ Forepart of a bull to right, with an ornamental collar and a dotted truncation; behind, laurel branch. Barron 149 var. (same obverse die, but new reverse die). Meadows, Hecatomnos, p. 107, 23 (same dies). SNG Copenhagen 1689 (same obverse die). Toned and quite attractive. Some surface roughness and a purplish patina as found otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
