Heraclius, with Heraclius Constantine and Heraclonas, 610-641. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.49 g, 6 h), Constantinople, B = 2nd officina, circa 639-641. From left to right, Heraclius, Heraclius Constantine and Heraclonas (H. Constantine and Heraclonas are the same size), all wearing crowns with crosses, standing facing; each holds a globus cruciger in his right hand and his robe with his left. Rev. From the Bollen Collection of Byzantine Coins and from the collection of Dr. Giorgi, M. Ratto, 24 January 1955, 1236, ex R. Ratto, Lugano, 9 December 1930, 1488. This famous catalogue contained an astounding collection of coins minted by the Byzantines, as well as some of their contemporaries. It has long been claimed that this was Roldolfo Ratto's own collection; while others suggest it belonged to the noble Trivulzio family and dated back to at least the 19th century. It is actually quite probable that Ratto bought it from the Trivulzios and then auctioned it off on his own account.
