L. Plautius Plancus, 47 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18.5 mm, 3.90 g, 6 h), Rome. L PLAVTIVS Head of the Medusa, facing, with a coiled snake on either side . Rev. PLANCVS Victory (or winged Aurora) flying to right, her head turned slightly to the left, holding the reins and leading the four horses of the Sun, rearing to right. Babelon (Plautia) 15. Crawford 453/1a. Sydenham 959. Attractively toned and with a remarkable obverse. Extremely fine.

The reverse of this coin was certainly derived from a contemporary or slightly earlier painting.
