MYSIA. Kyzikos. Circa 5th-4th century BC. Hekte (Electrum, 11 mm, 2.68 g). Perseus, nude but for his cap of invisibility and for his cloak, tied around his neck, kneeling to right, his head turned back to left, holding his harpa with his right hand and, with his left, the severed head of the Medusa turned away from him to right; below, tunny to right. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. BMFA 1549 = Warren 1491. SNG Paris 312. Traite II 2, pl. CLXXIV, 19. Von Fritze 162. Nicely centered and attractively toned. A beautiful example with a famous mythological scene. Obverse struck from a slightly rusty die, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
