Lot 280

MYSIA. Kyzikos. Circa 450-400 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 10.5 mm, 2.69 g), struck c. 450s. Bearded head of Dionysos to right, wearing a diadem decorated with ivy leaves; below, tunny swimming to right. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Apparently unpublished as a Hekte. Cf. BMFA 1529, SNG Paris 288 and von Fritze I 138 (all staters). Same dies as CNG 103, 2016, 212 = Leu W, 4, 2019, 252 (but dated too early in the 5th century). Seemingly only the second example known, well-centered and with a noble head of Dionysos. Good very fine.
