KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.78 g, 1 h), struck posthumously, Mesembria, circa 250-175. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on throne with high back, holding eagle with closed wings on his outstretched right hand and long scepter with his left; in the field to left, above knee, crested Corinthian helmet to right; in the exergue, ΔΙ. Price 1002. Attractively toned and well-struck. Tiny scratch, otherwise, extremely fine.
