ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 411-340 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 3.78 g, 6 h). Head of bearded Dionysos to left, wearing an ivy wreath. Rev. ΘΑΣΙ-Ο- Very muscular figure of Herakles, wearing his lion skin over his head and shoulders and in hunting dress, kneeling to right and drawing his bow; in the lower right field, facing gorgoneion; all within a linear square in a shallow incuse square . Cf. HGC 6, 343 and Le Rider, Thasiennes, 15 var. (this reverse symbol not noted). West 14 (same reverse die). Extremely rare. Nicely toned and of excellent late Classical style. Extremely fine.
