CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 510-500 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 22 mm, 7.82 g, 12 h). ΤΑRΑ (retrograde) Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to right, with both arms extended; cable border. Rev. ΤΑRΑϞ (retrograde) Hippocamp to left; below, scallop; border of rays. Fischer-Bossert 17, b (V8/R13, this coin). HN III 827. Vlasto 111 (this coin). Vlasto, "Choix De Monnaies Rares ou Inédites De Tarente", RN 1904, no.4, pl.V, 2, this coin). The first double relief stater of Tarentum - one of only three known examples. Boldly struck and toned. Minor marks and areas of flatness, otherwise, good very fine.
