LUCANIA. Poseidonia. Circa 470-445 BC. Nomos (Silver, 20.5 mm, 7.96 g, 2 h). ΠΟΜΕS Poseidon striding to right, extending right arm and brandishing trident in left hand, with chlamys over his shoulders. Rev. ΠΟΜΕS (retrograde) Bull standing left on ground line. HN III 1114. SNG ANS 657. Scrape on obverse and minor porosity, otherwise, good very fine.

LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 280-270 BC. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 6.42 g, 12 h), of reduced weight. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. [Θ]ΟΥ-PΙΩ[Ν] Bull butting to right, his head turned to his right; above, ΑΛ; in exergue, tripod. HN III 1898. SNG ANS 1107. SNG Lockett 533. Clear, well-centered, well-struck and unusually nice. Nearly extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM. Rhegion. Circa 415/0-387 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 17.19 g, 9 h). Lion’s mask facing. Rev. ΡΗΓΙΝΟΝ Laureate head of Apollo to right, with olive sprig behind. Herzfelder - (but cf. D 54d for the obverse and R 72 and 74 for the reverse). HN III 2496. Bold and very well-struck. Some flatness on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine/good very fine.

SICILY. Selinus. Circa 415-409 BC. Hexas (Bronze, 17 mm, 3.91 g, 11 h). Head of youthful Herakles, with a light beard, to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΣE The weapons of Herakles: bow and quiver. Buceti 38. Calciati 11. HGC 2, 1238. SNG ANS 716-20. A lovely, well-centered example, with a dark green-brown patina and sharp details. Extremely fine.

SICILY. Syracuse. Hieron II, 275-215 BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 5.88 g, 3 h), circa 263-218. Head of Poseidon to left, wearing tainia. Rev. ΙΕΡΩΝΟΣ Trident flanked by two dolphins swimming downwards; below legend, to right, ΛΥ. BAR Issue 60. CNS 197 Rl17/3. HGC 2, 1550. An attractive, well-struck example. About extremely fine.

CARTHAGE. Circa 290-270 BC. Stater (Electrum, 19 mm, 7.39 g, 12 h). Head of Tanit to left, wearing grain wreath, triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace with ten pendants. Rev. Horse standing to right on a single exergual line; no visible pellets. Jenkins & Lewis Group VI, 308 and 311 (but from different dies). MAA 13. Nearly extremely fine.

CIMMERIAN BOSPOROS. Nymphaion. Circa 400 BC. Diobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.65 g, 9 h). Head of a nymph to left, her hair bound in sakkos. Rev. NYN Grape bunch on vine; all within incuse square. Anokhin 949. Frolova Type I, 2-5. HGC 7, 13. MacDonald 86. SNG Stancomb 508. Well centered and toned. Very rare. Good very fine.

CIMMERIAN BOSPOROS. Pantikapaion. Circa 470-460 BC. Tetartemorion (Silver, 5.5 mm, 0.09 g). Ant seen from above. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square, pellet in two opposing quarters angles. Frolova Type XX. HGC 7, 54. MacDonald 6. Very rare. A dramatically attractive coin with a vigorous depiction of an ant. Reverse struck off-center, otherwise, about extremely fine.

CIMMERIAN BOSPOROS. Pantikapaion. Circa 340-325 BC. Stater (Gold, 19.5 mm, 9.14 g, 11 h). Head of Pan to left, wearing a wreath of ivy. Rev. Π-Α-Ν Griffin standing on grain ear to left, his head facing front, holding a spear in his mouth and with his right forepaw raised. Anokhin 1021. HGC 7, 20. Kraay & Hirmer 440. MacDonald 54. SNG BM Black Sea 867. Virtually as struck.

CIMMERIAN BOSPOROS. Pantikapaion. Circa 340-325 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.48 g, 11 h). Bearded head of Pan with animal ears facing, head turned slightly to left. Rev. Π-Α-Ν Head of a bull to left, turned slightly facing. HGC 7, 87. MacDonald 57. With a dramatically powerful head of Pan. Nicely toned. Very minor roughness, otherwise, good very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. 1/4 Stater (Gold, 11 mm, 2.16 g, 12 h), Amphipolis, c. 322-320. Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with serpent. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝ-ΔΡΟΥ Shield, bow and club. Price 176A var. (club to left). Rare. A few minor marks and an old ding on the edge, otherwise, good very fine.
