SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.30 g, 2 h), signed by the engravers Euthedemos on the obverse and Phrygillos on the reverse, circa 410. Winged Eros driving fast quadriga to right; above, Nike flying to left, crowning him; in exergue, Skylla swimming to right, holding trident over her left shoulder and pointing at small fish swimming to right with her right hand; behind Skylla, dolphin swimming to right; over Skylla's extended right hand, EYΘ. Rev. ΣYPAKOΣIΩN Wreathed head of Arethusa left, wearing simple necklace with a lion's head pendant; around, four dolphins swimming clockwise; below neck truncation, ΦPYΓIΛΛ/OΣ. HGC 2, 1334.
