AITOLIA, Aitolian League. Circa 205-150 BC. Triobol (Silver, 15 mm, 2.34 g, 9 h), struck forgery by Constantine Christodoulos (manufactured c. 1900-1914). Head of Aetolia to right, wearing kausia; behing, head, monogram of ΣΩ. Rev. AITΩΛΩN Calydonian boar to right; below T and monogram of ΣΩ; in exergue, spearhead to right. For the obverse, Svoronos, Christodoulos, 221, pl. H 221. For the reverse, Svoronos, Christodoulos, 209, pl. G, 209. Toned; marks. Very fine.

From the collections of a Nobleman that died in 1940, and Clarence Bement, Naville, 28 January 1924, 1021.

Constantine Christodoulos and his associates produced a massive number of high quality, struck forgeries between 1900 and 1914. These forgeries, such as this coin, flooded the European market. This piece entered the collection of Clarence S. Bement, before being auctioned off in the 1924 Naville sale.
