In the center: Proclamation of the oneness of God in three lines; In the margin: بسم الله ضرب هذا الدرهم بالعباسية سنة سبع و ستين و مئة (In the name of Allah, this Dirham was struck in Al-'Abbasiya in the year 167). Rev. In the center: Kalima in three lines; above name خلف (Khalaf), below name يزيد (Yazid); In the margin: Qur'an 9:33. SICA Vol. 3, -. Zeno #27057 (only this example known). Very rare! Flan faults, otherwise, about very fine.

From the Collection of Mr. Beat A. Klein.

No Abbasid official from that period is known by the name Khalaf. However, could the name refer to Khalaf b. al-Muda’, a Kharijite leader of the Sufri sect, who struck Dirhams in his own name in Tudgha in AH 175?
