EASTERN CELTS. 2nd-1st centuries BC. Unit (Bronze, 20mm, 8.73 g 1), imitating an anonymous issue from the time of Philip V or Perseus. Stylized and ‘celticized’ head of river-god Strymon to right, wearing wreath of reeds. Rev. Trident. CCCBM I -. Lanz -. Very fine.

The autonomous Macedonian Strymon bronzes were likely struck in Amphipolis, which was situated on the mouth of the river. These coins penetrated the lower Danube region through trade and were consequently copied by Thracian and Celtic tribes in that area.
