ASIA MINOR, Galatians. After 268 BC (?). Drachm (Silver, 21mm, 3.92 g 12), imitating a Drachm of Alexander III from Magnesia. Celticized head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝ Celticized Zeus seated on backless throne to left, holding eagle in his right hand and scepter in his left; before, A within wreath. Cf. Lanz 153, 2011, 12 (different style). Good extremely fine.

ASIA MINOR, Galatians. After 268 BC (?). Drachm (Silver, 19mm, 3.67 g 7), imitating a Drachm of Alexander III from Sardis. Celticized head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝ Celticized Zeus seated on backless throne to left, holding eagle in his right hand and scepter in his left; before, torch. Cf. Lanz 153, 2011, 12 (different style and imitating Magnesia). Extremely fine.

CAMPANIA, Hyria. Circa 405-385 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 19mm, 7.05 g 7). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with olive-wreath and owl; behind neck, Γ. Rev. YPIANO Man-faced bull to right. HN III, 539. Rutter 22. Nearly very fine.

CAMPANIA, Neapolis. Circa 300 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 21mm, 7.31 g 6). Head of nymph to right, surrounded by four dolphins. Rev. NEOΠOΛITHΣ Man-headed bull walking right, crowned by Nike flying above; below bull, ΔI; to lower right, ΘE. HN III 576. SNG Copenhagen 410. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, about very fine.

CAMPANIA, Neapolis. Circa 250-225 BC. Unit (Bronze, 19mm, 5.90 g 11). Laureate head of Apollo to left within laurel wreath (off flan). Rev. [NE]OΠOΛITΩN Lyre to left and omphalos to right. SNG ANS 524ff. Rare. Corrosion on obverse, otherwise, about very fine.

APULIA, Luceria. Circa 217-212 BC. Teruncius (Bronze, 27mm, 24.31 g), reduced weight series. Star of eight rays on raised disk. Rev. Dolphin right; above, three pellets (mark of value); below, L; all on raised disk. HN Italy 677c. Thurlow-Vecchi 283. Very fine.

CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 380-375/0 BC. Stater (Silver, 21mm, 7.70 g 2). Nude youth on horseback left; below, Palladion facing. Rev. A / TAPAΣ Phalanthos riding dolphin to left, his right hand outstretched. Fischer-Bossert 484 (same dies). HN Italy 875. Vlasto 423 (same dies). Very fine.

CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 302-281 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16mm, 3.33 g 6). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet ornamented with Skylla. Rev. TAPANTIΩN Owl with folded wings standing right on thunderbolt, head facing; to right, ΣΩ. HN III 1018. SNG ANS 1317-1319. Vlasto 1068-1074. Light golden toning. Good very fine.

CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 302-281 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16mm, 2.28 g 8). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet ornamented with Skylla. Rev. [TAPANTIΩN] Owl with folded wings standing right on thunderbolt, head facing; to right, ΣΩ. HN III 1018. SNG ANS 1317-1319. Vlasto 1068-1074. Struck on a short flan and minor cleaning scratches, otherwise, good very fine.

CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 275-200 BC. Unit (Bronze, 15mm, 2.67 g 11). Cockle shell. Rev. TAN Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding a kantharos in his right hand and cornucopiae in left. HN III 1087. SNG ANS 1602. Vlasto 1824. Minor corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 325-275 BC. Diobol (Silver, 13 mm, 0.97 g, 3 h). Head of Apollo Karneios to left, wearing ram’s horn. Rev. ME[TA] Barley ear with leaf to right, plough on leaf. HN III 1597. SNG ANS 522. A most attractive example of particularly good style. Flan crack, otherwise. Extremely fine.

LUCANIA, Metapontion. Circa 330-290 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 22mm, 7.63 g 9). Head of Demeter to right, wearing barley wreath. Rev. META Ear of barley with leaf to right; to right, star; to left, ΛY. Johnston C 8.10. HN III 1592. Minor cleaning scratches, otherwise, very fine.

LUCANIA, Thourioi. Circa 443-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 21mm, 7.58 g 1). Head of Athena to right, wearing Attic helmet adorned with an olive wreath. Rev. ΘOΥΡIΩN Bull moving slowly to right, his head lowered; below, Δ; in exergue, fish to left. HN III 1760. SNG Oxford 877. Nicely toned and struck on an unusually full flan. Good very fine.

LUCANIA, Thourioi. Circa 350-325 BC. Large unit (Bronze, 31mm, 31.08 g 8). Head of Athena to right, wearing Attic helmet adorned with Skylla. Rev. [ΘOYPIΩ]N Bull butting right; below, MY above kerykeion. SNG ANS 1183. SNG Copenhagen 1500. SNG Morcom 320. Good very fine.

LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 400-340 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 18 mm, 7.51 g, 6 h). Head of nymph to right, wearing necklace and her hair in krobylos. Rev. YEΛHTEΩN Lion walking to right; above, owl flying left. HN III 1277. Williams 217. A charming issue of particularly nice style. Good very fine.

LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 340-334 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.58 g, 9 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with griffin; behind, Θ. Rev. YEΛHTΩN Lion walking right; above, E; below, Θ. HN III 1285. SNG Copenhagen 1546. Nicely toned. Very fine.

LUCANIA, Velia. Circa 280 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 19mm, 7.41 g 9). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with Pegasus; above visor, A; behind neck, IE in shallow incuse square. Rev. [ΥEΛHTΩN] Lion attacking stag to left. HN III 1318. Williams 564 (same dies). Very attractively toned and very nicely centered on a tight flan. About extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM, The Brettii. Circa 216-214 BC. Drachm (Silver, 19mm, 4.72 g 4), issued during the Second Punic War. Diademed and draped bust of Nike to right; behind, lituus. Rev. BPETTIΩN Dionysos standing facing, crowning himself and holding scepter; to right, monogram. HN III 1963. Nicely toned. Good very fine.

BRUTTIUM, Kroton. Circa 480-430 BC. Stater (Silver, 21mm, 7.89 g 12). ϘΡΟ Tripod with three handles, ornamental volutes in the form of pellets below the bowl and legs ending in lions’ paws; to right, crane standing to left. Rev. Incuse tripod, border of rays. HN III 2104. SNG ANS 306-307. Reverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM, Kroton. Circa 425-350 BC. Stater (Silver, 20mm, 7.22 g 6). Eagle, with head turned to right, standing left on stag’s head. Rev. ϘPO Tripod; to left, ivy leaf. HN III 2146. SNG ANS 352 (same dies). Flan crack and surface problems, otherwise, about very fine.

SICILY, Leontini. Circa 425-420 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25mm, 16.94 g 12). Laureate head of Apollo to right; behind, ivy spray. Rev. LΕΟΝΤΙΝΟΝ Head of roaring lion right; three barley grains around, mullet below. Boehringer 62 (same dies). SNG ANS 253 (same dies). A rare type with the mullet on the reverse. Nicely toned. Good very fine.
