Extremely Rare Kimissa Litra
SICILY. Kimissa. Circa 339-336 BC. Litra (Silver, 15 mm, 0.96 g, 11 h). OMONOIA Laureate head of Homonoia to right, wearing sphendone, earring and necklace. Rev. [KIMIΣΣ / AIΩN] Lighted and garlanded altar, its table confind by two horns; to left and right, palm branch. Campana 2. HGC 2, 657 (R2). SNG ANS 1321. Extremely rare. Irregular flan, and repatinated by the previous owner, otherwise, very fine.
The existence of the city of Kimissa is known to us only through its coinage, which is usually dated to the time of Timoleon.
