EGYPT. Alexandria. Hadrian, 117-138. Drachm (Bronze, 35.9 mm, 22.65 g, 1 h), year 2 = 117-118. AYT KAIC TRAIANOC AΔΡΙΑΝΟC CEB Laurate head of Hadrian to right. Rev. L IB Emperor, togate, holding eagle-tipped scepter in right hand and branch in left, standing in quadriga of elephants right. Dattari (Savio) 1597. Geissen 756. K&G 32.40. RPC III 5101. Red-brown and green patina. Good very fine.

Hadrian started in the second year of his reign to mint coins in Alexandria. Most of the early types, also the quadriga drawn by elephants as seen here, copy types introduced by Trajan.
