Starting Price: 50 CHF
Hammer Price:  80 CHF
Lot 92

MACEDON. Dikaia. Circa 425-400 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 7.5 mm, 0.34 g, 1 h). Head of nymph to left. Rev. Head and neck of bull to right; on neck, Δ. HGC 3.1 -. SNG ANS -. Traité IV 1439 corr. & pl. CCCXL, 4. Extremely rare. Very slightly doubled reverse. Very fine.

This issue along with all the other denominations of this series, are almost exclusively (and erroneously) attributed to the Dikaia of Thrace. The Nymph and the bull refer to the Euboian origin of the settlers of the Macedonian Dikaia. The city was located in the west coast of Chalkidiki and was a colony of the Euboian Eretria.
