KINGS OF SOPHENE. Mithradates II Philopator, ca. 89 - after 85 BC. Dichalkon (Bronze, 18 mm, 4.46 g, 11 h), Arkathiokerta(?). Diademed head of Mithradates to right (or more likely his brother Arkathias II) wearing bashlyk; MΘ countermark behind head. Rev. BA[..] MΘΡΑ around club. ACV -. CAA -. Kovacs 34 var. (legend) but this obverse die. Unpublished countermark in Kovacs but cf. no 22-23. Dark green-brown patina; extremely rare type and apparently unpublished prior to Kovacs in 2016. Good very fine.
