THESSALY, Magnetes. Circa 168-140 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20mm, 4.31 g 10). Laureate head of Zeus to right, behind, monogram; border of dots. Rev. ΜΑΓΝΗΤΩΝ Artemis, with bow in her right and quiver over her shoulder, seated left on prow; to left, dolphin; to right, monogram. This exact variety apparently unpublished. Lightly toned. Some light scratches in the obverse field to right, otherwise, good very fine.

From the BCD Collection, Triton XV, 4 January 2012, 408.

The head of Zeus on this coin is a particularly elegant example of Hellenistic die cutting and recalls the very best heads on the coinage of Olympia in the 4th century BC.
