DYNASTS of LYCIA. Perikle. Circa 380-360 BC. Stater (Silver, 9.87 g 11). Bearded head of Perikle facing, turned slightly to left and with his hair in dramatic disarray. Rev. PARIKLA, (in Lycian script). Warrior, nude but for his helmet, advancing right, brandishing sword with his right hand and holding oval shield with his left; behind, seven-pointed star. BMFA Suppl. 233. Olçay-Mørkholm pl. 7, 435. A splendid, toned example, unusually well struck and preserved. Good extremely fine.


Ex Gemini V, 6 January 2009, 138, on exhibit in the Cincinnati Museum of Art (1996-2008, nr. 72), and from the collection of J. K. Stein .
