Solidus (Gold, 18 mm, 3.99 g, 6 h), Syracuse. d N FILEPICO PP AV Crowned bust of Philippicus facing, wearing a loros, and holding a globus cruciger in his right hand and an eagle tipped scepter in his left. Rev. VICTORIA AVgu* / P / [CONOB] Cross potent on base and three steps. DOC 16. MIB 10. SB 1458. Extremely rare. Some striking flatness and minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

While the gold minted by Philippicus in Constantinople is rare, that from the provincial mint of Syracuse is far, far rarer.
