THRACO-MACEDONIAN TRIBES, Orreskioi. Circa 500-480 BC. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 9.19 g). Bearded centaur galloping to right, carrying off a nymph whose right hand is raised in protest. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Comparette 106 = Gaebler 51b = SNG Lockett 1360 = Tzamalis A.3.20 (this coin). Rare. Sharply struck from well-engraved dies. A vigorously powerful obverse scene. Toned, particularly attractive and with an enviable pedigree . Very minor traces of double-striking . Extremely fine.
