CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 276-272 BC. Quarter Stater (Gold, 13 mm, 2.13 g, 9 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right; behind Apollo's neck to left, monogram of ΝΚ. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΝΤΙ - ΝΩΝ Eagle, with open wings, standing to right on a thunderbolt; in the field to right, monogram of ΑΡ over a spear-head to right; in the exergue, ΙΑ. Fischer-Bossert G51l = Vlasto 54 = Vlasto, NC 1930, pl. XII, 13 (this coin). Very rare. A superb, sharply-struck piece, beautifully centered and toned. Minor marks and reverse very slightly double-struck, otherwise, good extremely fine.
