THESSALY. Pelinna. Circa 400-344 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20 mm, 6.13 g, 6 h). Thessalian cavalryman, wearing petasos and chlamys, and holding a spear, riding to left on galloping horse; above, in tiny letters, ΑΙ. Rev. [Π]ΕΛΙΝΝΑΙΚ[ΟΝ] (the Νs retrograde) Warrior advancing left, his head turned back to right, wearing petasos and chlamys and with a sword in a scabbard held by a baldric, holding short spear in his right hand and a round shield and two other spears in his left . BCD Thessaly I, 1226. HGC 4, 263. Traité II, 4, 527 and pl. CCXC, 15. Very rare, struck from beautifully engraved dies and with an attractively iridescent toning. Very lightly craquelure surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

From a collection in Switzerland assembled prior to 2005.
