KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 16.39 g, 1 h), struck posthumously in Miletos, circa 210-170. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on low throne with ornamented back, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; to left, star and lion walking to left, turning his head backwards, above the monogram of MI (for Miletus); below throne, monogram of ME; in the outer right field, monogram of ΠEP. An unpublished variatiant of Price 2184A. Nicely struck and of dramatic style. About extremely fine.
