Lot 1099

SICILY. Naxos. Circa 425-420 BC. Tetras (Bronze, 15 mm, 3.35 g, 4 h). Laureate head of the youthful river-god Assinos to right. Rev. N-A Kantharos; with three pellets, to left, right and below. Buceti 36. Calciati 1/2. Cahn 147 (V89/R-,unlisted rev. die). Campana 3. HGC 2, 995. SNG ANS 1361. Very rare. Struck from dies engraved by an artist of great talent: not only do we have a wonderful head of Assinos, we have a fascinatingly arranged reverse. Well-struck, well-centered and with a splendid, and untouched, apple-green patina. About extremely fine.
