SICILY. Himera. Circa 430-420 BC. Trias (Bronze, 24 mm, 9.41 g). Facing gorgoneion with open mouth, protruding tongue and prominent teeth. Rev. Four pellets. Calciati 8. SNG ANS -. Very rare. An outstanding example with a fine green patina. Obverse slightly softly struck, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the Dr. Paul Peter Urone Collection, ex Nomos 10, 18 May 2015, 5.

Triantes (i.e. pieces of 4 unciae) from Himera are surprisingly uncommon, especially when compared to the abundant tetrantes. This is a particularly fine example, beautifully centered and with a wonderful gorgon head.
