KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 4.35 g, 10 h), Magnesia, 319-305. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on a backless throne, holding eagle in his right hand and long scepter with his left; below eagle, dolphin swimming upwards; below throne, monogram of AT; in the outer right field, filleted thyrsos. Price 1950. Rare. Bright and attractive. Among the finest drachmas of Alexander known. Virtually as struck.
