KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27.5 mm, 16.98 g, 12 h), struck posthumously, at an uncertain mint, but possibly Byzantion, c. 260. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, leaning her left elbow on her shield and holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right; behind, transverse spear with point below; in the exergue, Ζ?. Martin, "A Third Century B.C. Hoard From Thessaly at the ANS," ANSMN 26, 1981, 557 (Byzantion). Müller 515. Sharply struck, very attractively toned and with a restrainedly florid Hellenistic-style head of Alexander. About extremely fine.

From the collection of a Nobleman who died in 1940 (original collector's ticket included), and acquired from an uncertain French auction which took place in December 1928.
