MYSIA. Kyzikos. Circa 550-450 BC. Stater (Electrum, 21.5 mm, 16.18 g). Head of Athena to left, wearing Corinthian helmet raised on the top of her head; behind, tunny downward. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. BMFA 1432. Greenwell 26. SNG Paris -. Von Fritze 64, and pl. II, 17. Pleasing early Classical style, lightly toned. Edge split, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From a European collection, acquired prior to 2020.

On the obverse of this coin we have the head of Athena wearing a Corinthian helmet without a crest. We should not think of her as fighting, or even preparing to fight, because her helmet is propped up on the top of her head. That means she is finished with her battle as is now at rest.
