TUDOR. Henry VIII, 1509-1547. Medal (Bronze, 32 mm, 10.94 g, 12 h), a later, perhaps 18th century, cast of an original by Hans Schwarz, undated but c. 1524, and certainly prior to 1541. HENRICVS VIII DEI GRA REX ANG: FRANC DOM HYB Bust of Henry VIII to left, wearing broad-brimmed hat and elaborate drapery. Rev. ODOR / EIVS VT LIBANI // DEFENSOR / FIDEI (= His smell [shall be] as Lebanon - Hosea, xiv, 7 - Defender of the Faith A Tudor Rose. Habich I/1, 270 and pl. XXXVII, 1. MI 30/15 (but casts in silver). Very rare. An interesting piece with an early portrait of Henry VIII. A slightly coarse cast with some marks, otherwise, good very fine.
