KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.28 g, 2 h), struck under Philip III Arrhidaios, Tarsos, c. 323-317. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing to right with closed wings; to left, before Zeus's knees, Nike flying upwards to right bearing a wreath; below throne, monogram of ANTI above Θ. Price 3039. A lovely, toned coin, struck in high relief with both a splendid head of the youthful Herakles, as well as a finely detailed head of Zeus of gem-like quality. Extremely fine.
