A spectacular coin with an illustrious provenance!
PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Arsinoe II, wife of Ptolemy II, died 270 BC. Dekadrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 35.52 g, 12 h), Alexandria, struck under Ptolemy II, circa 261/0-253/2 BC (?). Veiled head of Arsinoe to right, wearing stephane; ΘΘ behind, tip of lotus-tipped scepter in background. Rev. ΑΡΣΙΝΟΗΣ ΦΙΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ Double cornucopia bound with fillet. Svoronos 943. Troxell, Arsinoe p. 44 (this coin among the 4 examples noted). Extremely rare and of fine style with attractive light toning. A few minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.
