PHOENICIA. Tyre. 126/5 BC-AD 65/6. Shekel (Silver, 30 mm, 14.39 g, 12 h), year ZM = 47 = 80/79. Laureate head of Melqart to right, with a lion's skin tied around his neck. Rev. ΤΥΡΟΥ ΙΕΡΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΑΣΥΛΟΥ Eagle with closed wings standing to left on prow, with palm frond over his far shoulder; in the field to left, ZM above club; between eagle's legs, bet; in the field to right, monogram of ΦΛ. BMC 136. HGC 10, 357. DCA 919. DCA Tyre 168. An impressive piece, very well-struck on a broad flan. Minor fault on the obverse and some uncleaned deposits on the reverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.
