Rare Neapolis Drachm pedigreed to 1956!
MACEDON. Neapolis. Circa 424-350 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 3.82 g, 2 h). Gorgoneion facing with protruding tongue. Rev. Ν-Ε / Ο-Π Laureate head of the nymph of Neapolis to right, her hair coiled around her head and with a bun at the back, wearing a plain necklace with a pendant. AMNG III, 11 and pl. XVI, 25. Kraay & Hirmer 434. SNG ANS 429. With a stunning Gorgon head, very well centered on a broad flan and a fine pedigree. Good very fine.

The large drachms of Neapolis share the same depictions as the hemidrachms, with the only exception being the appearance of a laureate (?) wreath on the obverse. The drachms are much more rare (by far) than their smaller relatives which seems to have been struck in considerable numbers during the later and late classical period.
