ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 500-463 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 9.94 g), c. 500-480. Ithyphallic satyr advancing to right, carrying protesting nymph. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Asyut 128. BMFA 851. Le Rider, Thasiennes 2. SNG Copenhagen 1009. Superbly struck in high relief with excellent details and with a nymph whose expression seems rather more amused than anything else! Extremely fine.
