SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 8.55 g, 1 h), under Gelon I, circa 485-480. Nude and bearded horseman riding to right, holding reins in both hands. Rev. ΣVRA-KOΣ-IΟN Head of Arethusa to right, wearing necklace and pearl diadem, her hair falling down behind; around, three dolphins swimming clockwise. Boehringer 98 (V46/R66). Rizzo pl. XXXIV, 23 (same dies). SNG ANS 26 (same dies). Perfectly centered and nicely toned. Very fine.
