LESBOS, Mytilene. Circa 454-428/7 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 2.46 g 3), c. 450/440 BC. Head of Silenos, three-quarters facing to right, bald and with a full beard and a goat’s ear. Rev. Head of a lion with open jaws to right; all within shallow incuse square. Bodenstedt 36.3 (this coin). Gulbenkian 704. SNG von Aulock 7725 (this coin). Very rare. With an elegant and masterfully depicted head of Silenos. Good very fine.
