SICILY, The Krimissan Alliance. Circa 320 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 14mm, 1.52 g 12). [OMONOIA] Laureate head of Homonoia to right. Rev. KIMIΣΣAIΩN Flaming horned altar, galranded and with branches at either side. Basel 346 (same dies). A.J. Evans, "On an Alliance Coin of Western Sicily, with the Altar of the Krimissos," NumChron 1896, pg.140-143. Jameson 559. A very rare and interesting type. Some softness from removed horn silver, otherwise, good fine.

From a collection in Ticino, formed over 20 years ago.

Evans suggested that this interesting type may commemorate an alliance between Segesta and Panormos that was concluded at an altar near the Krimissos river.
