PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, As satrap, 323-305 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28mm, 15.74 g 1), struck on the light Ptolemaic standard in the name of Alexander III, Alexandria, 311/0-305. Head of the deified Alexander III to right, wearing diadem and elephant skin headdress, with aegis around his neck, and with horn of Ammon on his forehead. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Athena Alkidemos advancing right, hurling spear with her right hand and with shield over her extended left arm; to left, monogram of ΘΕ; to right, Corinthian helmet above ΔΙ and eagle with closed wings standing on thunderbolt to right. SNG Lockett 3394 (this coin). Svoronos 177. Zervos Issue 33, 534/d (this coin cited). Lightly toned and attractive. Minor die break on the obverse at the elephant’s ear, otherwise, superb extremely fine.
