CILICIA, Myriandros (or Tarsos?). Mazaios, Satrap of Cilicia, 361/0-334 BC. Stater (Silver, plated, 23mm, 9.73 g 9). Baaltars seated left, his torso facing, holding lotus-tipped scepter in extended right hand, left hand holding chlamys at his waist; B’LTRZ (in Aramaic) and shield to right Rev. Lion walking left on ground; MZDY (in Aramaic) above. Casabonne Serie 5, Group B (Tarsos). SNG Levante 188 (Myriandros). SNG Paris 431 (Myriandros). Bump on edge and some breaks in plating, otherwise, good very fine.

While usually given to Myriandros, Casabonne has recently argued in favor of an attribution of this issue to Tarsos. Our specimen, however, is a plated contemporary forgery and thus was likely struck in an irregular mint.
