overview

A possibly unpublished and enigmatic little coin from Perge (?)

Starting Price: 100 CHF
Hammer Price:  120 CHF
Lot 389

PAMPHYLIA, Perge (?). 2nd Century BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 9mm, 0.43 g 1). Laureate head of Artemis to right; bow and quiver over shoulder. Rev. Stag standing to right; below, globule. BMC -. SNG Copenhagen -. SNG Paris -. SNG Pfälzer -. SNG von Aulock -. Possibly unpublished. Very fine.

This is an enigmatic little coin: The obverse is reminiscent of Perge’s silver coinage, however, neither Hemiobolai nor this reverse type appear to be known for this mint. We have tentatively ascribed it to Perge here but we can not exclude that it comes from an uncertain Carian or Lycian mint.
