Divus Antoninus Pius, died AD 161. Denarius (Silver, 17mm, 2.69 g 6), Rome, struck under Marcus Aurelius, 161. DIVVS ANTONINVS Bare head of Antoninus Pius to right, wearing slight drapery over his left shoulder. Rev. CONSECRATIO Funeral building of four storeys, decorated with garlands and statues and with a quadriga on top. Cohen 164 var. (different bust type). RIC 438. A most attractive and well-centered example. Slightly porous, otherwise, extremely fine.


From the collection of a Man of the Cloth, now giving up the pursuit; acquired in the 1990s.
