LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 290-280 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.93 g, 10 h), struck under the magistrate Di... Head of Demeter to left, wearing wreath of grain ears, single pendant earring, and necklace; behind, ΔΙ. Rev. META Six-grained barley ear with leaf to right; above leaf, spindle. HN III 1612. Johnston D1.1 (same dies). Toned and of lovely style. Some minor die-rust and with a small scratch on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of W. Belser, Zürich, prior to 1965, and that of his son, but acquired from Bank Leu in the 1960s or early 1970s with an original ticket bearing the inventory number IA 946.
