CELTIC, Carpathian region. Uncertain tribe. Late 2nd-early 1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Billon, 33 mm, 12.67 g, 12 h), Zeuskopf/Henkelarmreiter type. Celticized head of Zeus to right. Rev. Rider on horse prancing to right. Dembski 1154. Lanz 564 var. OTA 247. Deeply toned. Very fine.

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 380-325 BC. Diobol (Silver, 13 mm, 1.26 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing Attic helmet adorned with a hippocamp. Rev. TAPA-NT[INΩN] Herakles standing to right, fighting the Nemean lion; to left, club. HN III 914. SNG Paris 2094. Vlasto 1217. Bright, sharp and well-struck. Extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 540-510 BC. Stater (Silver, 28 mm, 8.16 g, 12 h). ΜΕΤΑ Eight-grained barley ear; border of dots. Rev. Eight-grained barley ear, as above but incuse; rayed border. Noe 125. SNG ANS 215 (same dies). A beautifully toned, well-struck and lovely coin. Extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 515-510 BC. Stater (Silver, 27 mm, 8.18 g, 12 h). ΜΕΤΑΠ Seven-grained barley ear; border of dots. Rev. Seven-grained barley ear, as above but incuse; rayed border. ΗΝ ΙΙΙ 1481. Noe 142 (same obverse die). Attractively toned. Good very fine.

LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 443-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 7.83 g, 5 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing an Attic helmet ornamented with an olive branch. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩ[Ν] Bull butting to right; in exergue, fish to right. HN III 1775. SNG ANS 900-14. Attractively toned, nicely centered and of excellent style. Very fine.

BRUTTIUM. Kroton. Circa 350-300 BC. Nomos (Silver, 23 mm, 7.67 g, 7 h). Eagle, with spread wings, standing to left on olive branch. Rev. KPO / Tripod lebes; in field to right, Δ. HN III 2172. Cf. SNG ANS 364. Well-struck and lightly toned. Obverse very slightly off-center, otherwise, extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM. Medma. 330-320 BC. Stater (Silver, 19 mm, 8.71 g, 3 h). Pegasos prancing to left. Rev. Head of Athena to left, wearing pearl necklace and Corinthian helmet; below bust, here off the flan, M. Calciati 2. HN III 2425. SNG ANS 587. Attractive, well-struck and beautifully toned. Extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM. Rhegion. Circa 415/0-387 BC. Litra (Silver, 9 mm, 0.79 g, 10 h). Lion’s mask facing. Rev. ΡΗ Olive sprig, with two leaves and two berries. Herzfelder pl. XI, Jβ. HN III 2499. Pozzi 333 (this coin). Attractively centered, well-struck and beautifully toned. About extremely fine.

SICILY. Aitna. Circa 460-450 BC. Litra (Silver, 11 mm, 0.63 g, 11 h). Bald and bearded head of Silenos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. ΑΙΤ - ΝΑΙ Thunderbolt, with wings above. Campana 3, variety C. Jameson 537. SNG Fitzwilliam 948. A splendid and very attractive coin, with a dark patina as found. Extremely fine.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 495-485 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 8.72 g, 10 h). AKRA-ΓΑΝΤΟS Eagle with closed wings standing to left. Rev. Crab. Westermark 9 (O4/R5¹) ANS 912 (same dies). Toned and with a very lively crab on the reverse. Eagle's shoulder struck flat and with the reverse slightly off-center, otherwise, good very fine.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 495-480/78 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 8.73 g, 7 h). AKRACA - NTOΣ Eagle standing left. Rev. ΕΧΑ (retrograde) Crab seen from above. Bohringer, Comiso, 19 (this coin). SNG Lloyd 794 (same dies). Westermark 92.4 (O39/R56, this coin). Very rare. Bold, attractive and nicely toned.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 488/85 - 480/78 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 19 mm, 8.87 g, 7 h). ΑΚRΑ Eagle standing left with closed wings. Rev. Crab within a circular incuse. Boehringer, Comiso 32 (this coin). Westermark 172.3 (this coin, dies O170/R178). Nicely toned and well-struck. Extremely fine.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 465/4-446 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.42 g, 1 h). AKRAC - ANTOΣ Eagle standing to left. Rev. Crab seen from above. BMC 37 (same dies). Westermark 317.2 (this coin, dies O4/R11). Attractive, lightly toned and well-struck. Some areas of striking flatness and some minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

SICILY. Himera. Circa 480-470 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 8.38 g, 8 h). ΗΙΜΕRΑ Cock standing to left. Rev. Crab within shallow circular incuse. SNG ANS 156 (same obverse die). Westermark, Himera 31.5 (O8/R26, this coin). Nicely toned and well-struck. Minor marks and traces of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.

SICILY. Naxos. Circa 461-430 BC. Litra (Silver, 11 mm, 0.73 g, 6 h). Head of bearded Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. Ν-Α /ΧΙ Bunch of grapes hanging from a vine branch with three leaves. Cahn, Naxos 63 (V46/R54). Campana 9a. Attractive and toned. Obverse very slightly double-struck, otherwise, about extremely fine.

SICILY. Naxos. Circa 415-403 BC. Litra (Silver, 12 mm, 0.76 g, 6 h). NAΞI Head of bearded Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. Bunch of grapes on vine branch with leaves and tendrils. Cahn 144 (V87/R115). HGC 2, 976. SNG ANS 530. SNG Copenhagen 490. An attractive, toned example, struck on a broad flan from dies of superb Classical style. Good extremely fine.

SICILY. Syracuse. Circa 474-450 BC. Litra (Silver, 13.5 mm, 0.74 g, 3 h). ΣVPA Pearl-diademed head of Arethusa to right, wearing a pendant earring, a simple necklace, and with her hair tied up at the back under a pearl headband. Rev. Octopus. Boehringer 450. Attractively toned and of very fine style. Extremely fine.

SICILY. Tauromenion. Circa 304-289 BC. 4 Litrai (Silver, 15.5 mm, 3.24 g, 5 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right; behind, star of eight rays. Rev. TAYPOME-NITAN Tripod; above left, monogram of API. SNG ANS 1122 (same dies). Well-centered and nicely toned – a very attractive coin. About extremely fine.
