PHOENICIA. Tyre. 126/5 BC-AD 65/6. Shekel (Silver, 29 mm, 14.38 g, 12 h), year EK = 25 = 102/101. Laureate head of Melqart to right, with lion's skin tied around his neck. Rev. ΤΥΡΟΥ ΙΕΡΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΑΣΥΛΟΥ Eagle standing left on prow, with palm frond of his far shoulder; in the field to left, EK above club; between eagle's legs, alef; in the field to right, monogram of ΗΡΑ. BMC 110 var. DCA Tyre 80. Nicely toned, well-centered and struck in high relief. Some minor roughness, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of W. Belser, Zürich, prior to 1965, and that of his son, acquired from Bank Leu in the 1960s-early 1970s with its original ticket bearing the inventory number IA 2048.
